t26 October 2000
AGE-NC Project No. 98-0466
' Page 5 of 10
2.1.1. Soil Sample Collection
Discrete soil samples were collected from the probe borings at 5-foot in ervals,beginning at 5 feet
bsg, to total depth of each boring. Soil samples were collected using i Geoprobe soil sampling
assembly loaded with four pre-cleaned 1.125-inch by 6-inch brass sl eves. Soil samples were
preserved by covering both ends of the brass sleeve with Teflon sheets, capping, and sealing with
tape.Each sample sleeve was labeled with soil probe boring location,depth,time,date and sampler's
initials.
' Soil samples from hand auger borings DSI through DS4 were colle ted utilizing a 2.25-inch
diameter metric soil sampler loaded with one 2-inch by 6-inch brass sleee. The sampling assembly
was advanced using a slide hammer. Soil samples were preserved by covering both ends of the brass
sleeve with Teflon sheets,capping,and sealing with tape.Each sample sleeve was labeled with soil
probe boring location, depth, time, date and sampler's initials.
' Each preserved sample was logged on a chain-of-custody form, placedin a chilled container and
transported to Precision Enviro-Tech Analytical Laboratory(PET)a California Department ofHealth
Services (DHS)-certified laboratory under chain of custody; selected samples were analyzed for:
' • Total recoverable petroleum hydrocarbons(TRPH)in accordance with EPA Method 418.1;
' • Total petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as diesel(TPH-d)and tot 1 petroleum hydrocarbons
quantified as motor oil (TPH-mo) EPA Method 8015 Modified;
' • Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in accordance with EPA Method 8260B;
• Semivolatile organic compounds (SVOCs)PCP and TCP in accordance with EPA Method
8270;
• Chromium, lead, zinc in accordance with EPA Method 6010; and
• Formaldehyde in accordance with EPA Method 8315.
' 2.1.2 . Ground Water Sample Collection
One grab ground water sample was collected from LP4 using a tempo ary 1-inch diameter PVC
screen.The probe rods were advanced to total depth,the hollow steel rod were then pulled out,and
the screened casing was inserted into the saturated zone. Ground watei was allowed to enter the
casing, and samples were retrieved using a modified PVC tubing bail er. Sufficient sample was
collected from boring LP4 to fill four 40-m1 EPA-approved VOA via s containing 0.5 ml 18%
hydrochloric acid as a sample preservative and into one 1-liter and one 500-ml amber bottles without
sample preservative. Ground water sample containers were labeled with probe boring designation,
Advanced GmEnvironmental,Inc.
