J. .H. KLEINFELDER & ASSOCIATES
2 BACKGROUND
on February 17 and 18, 1987, Dames and Moore performed a site screening
and a Phase I reconnaissance of the moulding and milling facility (AM&M)
located on West Lane Road in Stockton, California. The site location is
shown on Plate 1. They recommended a Phase II investigation of certain
"areas of interest" as follow—up and verif cation at previous
investigative work.
Other prior work at this site has been performed by Bechtel National,
Inc. , and Kleinfelder. Bechtel, in reports during 19B4 and 1985, reviewed
the handling of hazardous materials and the handling and disposal
practices of hazardous wastes at the site. Kleinfel er is in the process
of investigating potential contamination from an underground diesel tank
and pentachlorophenol (PCP) dipping operation.
The Dames and Moore report, based on their Phase I reconnaissance,
identifies 11 areas of possible contamination requiring further
investigation (Attachment 1) . Since then an additional underground tank
has been located near the septic tank. This tank was previously used to
store boiler fuel.
AM&M has an underground tank removal program. Two tanks which were
Jplanned by Dames and Moore to be a part of the Phase II investigation are
scheduled for removal. Investigation of possible soil contamination in
the area of these tanks will be deferred until then. The tanks are the
10,000—gallon former diesel fuel tank located south of the -Primer
1 Building, and the 500—gallon waste oil and spent solvent tank located east
of the maintenance shop. Investigation in the a ea of the newly found
` boiler fuel tank will also be deferred until removal.
46-87-282 2
