INFORMATION SHEET
THE MARLEY COOLING TOWER COMPANY
STOCKTON, SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY
The Marley Cooling Tower Company (MCTC) owns a wood treating facility for the
purpose of fabricating cooling towers in the East Stockton area. The primary
chemicals used in their wood treatment process are chromium, copper, and
arsenic.
Presently, all rainfall runoff is collected in a stormwater pond in the Northern
portion of the site. Rainfall runoff which contacts treated wood stored on-site
typically becomes contaminated and is comingled with "clean" runoff before being
collected in the stormwater pond. MCTC proposes to segregate the contaminated
runoff and remove any contaminants through the use of an ion exchange unit prior
to discharging the stormwater to the Stockton diverting canal . The discharge
limits for Arsonic, copper, and chromium are 0.05 mg/l , 0.05 mg/1 , and 0.05 mg/l
respectively.
Allowing MCTC to discharge their stormwater off-site will enable them to drain
the water presently in the pond and initiate the cleanup of any contamination
associated with the pond.
REF:1j1
