6.0 IDENTIFICATION AND DESCRIPTION OF REMEDIAL ACTION ALTERNATIVES
In this section the remedial technologies that remain after the
preliminary screening are combined into preliminary remedial alternatives.
Alternatives were developed to cover a range of alternatives from a no--action
alternative to an off-site treatment alternative as required in the California
lita Mitigation Decipion Trge (CDOHS, 1987) .
The preliminary remedial alternatives were screened to eliminate those
that would not adequately mitigate site problems, and to select from the
alternatives that would offer the same degree of mitigation at the lowest
cost. A group of six Final Candidate Alternatives emerged from the screening
analysis and are described in detail is Section 6.3.
6.1 nev2lonment of Remedial Action Alternatives
The Decision Tree Manual requires various alternatives to be developed so
that there is an alternative addressing each of the following five categories:
o Alternatives which attain applicable or relevant public health or
environmental standards;
o Alternatives which exceed applicable or relevant public health or
environmental standards;
o Alternatives which do not attain applicable or relevant public health
or environmental standards but which meet CERCLA's objective of
adequately protecting public health, welfare, and the environment; and
o Alternatives involving off-site treatment or disposal;
o A No-Action Alternative.
6-1
BS/0204b
