Options that appear to adequately address site problems and which are suited
for implementation at the site.
In order to address the range of alternatives required by federal and
state standards for feasibility studies, a number of cleanup levels and
treatment and disposal alternatives were studied. In order to address
alternatives that meet and exceed our proposed cleanup level, both 1000 ppm
TPH and 10,000 ppm TPH cleanup level alternatives are included. Alternatives
that include on- and off-site treatment or disposal were addressed as well as
a no-action alternative. Additionally, the effect of removing the existing
maintenance shop or reinforcing the maintenance shop and removing accessible
soils was included. Estimated soil volumes for soils containing greater than
10,000 ppm TPH and soils containing greater than 1000 ppm TPH are presented
below. The volume estimates are based on the results of the three site
investigations.
Total Excluding Sails
Total Underlying Maintenance Shop
(cu yds) (cu yds)
Soils >10,000 ppm TPH Diesel 11100 800
Soils >1000 ppm TPH Diesel 7,500 5,200
A total of 12 different remedial alternatives were addressed in the
preliminary screening based on different combinations of the above factors.
Following are the preliminary alternative descriptions:
Alternative #1 - No Action (Limited Action)
o Groundwater monitoring for 30 years
o Institutional controls involving access and use restrictions.
6-3
SS/0204b
