6.3.1.1 Groundwater Monitoring
Groundwater monitoring mould consist of the collection and analysis of
groundwater samples from the three existing monitoring wells on-site. Water
samples would be collected quarterly for a period of 30 years and analyzed for
total petroleum hydrocarbons and PNA's.
6.3.1.2 Institutional Controls
A key element of this alternative is the application of institutional
controls to restrict access to contamination and to reduce the potential for
migration under certain land use scenarios. institutional controls applicable
to this alternative could include site access restrictions, and site use
restrictions.
6.3.2 Alternatives - Excavation to 1000 ppm with Land arming
All soils greater than 1000 ppm TPH would be excavated in this remedial
alternative after the building has been removed and the existing asphalt pad
demolished. The soil would be treated on-site by landfarming to reduce the
TPH concentrations below 100 ppm.
6.3.2.1 Building Demolition
In order to gain access to all soils containing more than 1000 ppm TPH,
this remedial alternative mould include demolition of the existing steel frame
maintenance shop. The building will be raised and the foundation removed to
expose the soil surface for the ensuing excavation operation.
6.3.2.2 Earth Moving
Excavation at the former AFPC site will be performed with standard
construction equipment.
