00 00 <br /> 2 2 Permits Procurement and Utilities Clearance <br /> Following the approval of this Work Plan, San Joaquin County well installation permits will be obtained <br /> for the proposed monitoring wells Site access will be coordinated with current site operator The well <br /> locations will be marked and Underground Service Alert (USA) will be contacted to obtain clearance <br /> of underground utilities prior to the advancement of the borings <br /> 2 3 Well Installation Protocol <br /> All field procedures will be overseen by a geologist, under the direction of a California <br /> Registered Geologist Procedures for drilling soil borings, well installation, well development, and <br /> groundwater sampling are outlined in the following sections The on-site geologist will be present at <br /> all times during drilling in order to <br /> 0 Observe the drilling subcontractor, <br /> • Maintain a continuous lrthologic log of the borehole in accordance with the United Soil <br /> Classification System (USCS), <br /> • Screen drilling cuttings, and atmospheric conditions within the work place with a PID, <br /> • Oversee the implementation of the Health and Safety Plan <br /> 2.4 Soil Sampling <br /> During drilling, each borehole will be advanced using truck-mounted drilling rig equipped with an 8- <br /> inch diameter hollow stem auger Soil samples will be collected at 5-foot intervals using a California <br /> Modified Drive Sampler for lithologic identification The samples collected will be screened with a <br /> PID, however, laboratory analyses will not be performed <br /> 2 5 Monitoring Well Installation <br /> Two (2) two-inch diameter groundwater monitoring wells will be installed in borings drilled at the <br /> proposed locations shown on Figure 2 The wells will be completed to an estimated final depth of 60 <br /> feet below ground surface (bgs), based on July 1998 data that indicates a water level of 38 feet bgs, <br /> compared with reported depths to water of 52 feet in 1996 and approximately 70 feet in 1994 <br /> The groundwater monitoring wells will be installed through the hollow-stem augers Monitoring wells <br /> will be completed with flush threaded, 2-inch inner diameter schedule 40 PVC casing and well screen <br /> The wells will be assembled without the use of chemical bonding <br /> The screened interval will be filtered packed with pre-washed filter sand from the total depth to <br /> approximately two feet above the top of the screened interval Both the screen size and the filter pack <br /> will be assessed based on-site sieve inspection of the aquifer materials found at the interval to be <br /> • screened Two well screen and filter sizes will be on hand in order to prevent delays Well screens <br /> are anticipated to consist of 0 020-inch slotted schedule 40 PVC However, should the native soils <br /> DAMES&MOORE 2 <br />
