Soil Suitability I Nitrate Loading Study Irerracon
Proposed Commercial Truck Yard e Stockton, CA
August 16, 2019 ■ Terracon Project No. NA197053
2.1 Chemical and Physical Properties of Soil
2.1.1 Chemical and Physical Soil Properties
Terracon reviewed the USDA NRCS Web Soil Survey and USDA Soil Survey of San Joaquin
County (1992) for information regarding San Joaquin loam soils (Section 1.5). Selected physical
and chemical properties for the soil types are listed in the following table.
Table 8.
Physical and Chemical Properties*
Soil Soil Septic
Name/ Depth USDA Unified Soil Clay Permeability reaction Salinity tank
Ma in Texture Classification % in/hour mmhos/cm absorption
Symbol fields
Fine
0-15 sandy SM 5-16 1.55-1.66 7.4-8.4 <4
loam Moderate,
Veritas Sandy flooding
266 15-54 loam, fine SM 5-16 1.50-1.60 7.4-8.4 <4 cemented
sandy pan
loam
54-70 Cemented -- --- --- --- ---
'Selected USDA physical and chemical properties
2.1.2 Mass Transport Soil Properties
The percolation test has revealed that soils from 0 to 3.5 feet bgs are permeable and will allow
for moderate to rapid infiltration of water. The longer the effluent remains near the surface, the
more treatment is enhanced due to natural processes within the soil. If the permeable soils exist
to the depth of the groundwater table, it is possible that surface contaminants may be transported
fairly rapidly, however, based on the known clay and hardpan subsurface strata in the area, the
surface silty sandy soil is not expected to continue to groundwater.
2.2 Groundwater Analysis
2.2.1 Regional Groundwater
A discussion of regional groundwater, including depth to groundwater is included in Section 1.4.1.
No significant seasonal trends were evident from the sources consulted.
2.2.2 Potential Ground Water Contamination Issues
A discussion of issues related to potential groundwater contamination is included in Section 1.4.2.
Responsive■ Resourceful ■ Reliable 13
