Kennedy/Jenks/Chilton
WP-2 and to determine the extent and concentration of DDT that may be present
in the warehouse yard. Twelve discrete samples will be collected from the
warehouse storage yard and from the facility perimeter.
Four discrete samples will be collected from the area near the southern boun-
dary of the site where three pesticide storage containers are located.
Task 4 - Surface Wipe Sampling
Surface wipe samples will be collected from the floor, walls and shelves of
the warehouse for pesticide analysis. Samples will be collected using the
following procedure:
1) Samples will be collected in locations suspected of pesticide storage or
in locations where staining is visible, if any. A clean 100 - cm2 tem-
plate will be placed over the area. The area will not be cleaned of par-
ticulate matter or oily films before wiping so that the sample will repre-
sent the gross conditions of the surface.
2) An appropriate solvent will be applied to a piece of 11-cm filter paper
(eg. Whatman 40 ashless, Whatman 50 smear tabs, or equivalent) . The
moistened filter paper will be held with a pair of stainless steel forceps
and used to thoroughly swab the 100 - cm2 templated area.
3) For floor areas or walls, wipes from several locations on the given floor
or wall area will be collected and placed in the same sample bottle for
composite analysis. Sample collection in each location of the room will
be performed with a clean filter paper swab and template. Approximately
2 to 4 wiped areas on the floor of a room or on the walls will be col-
lected for a composite sample.
4) The wipe samples will be collected in precleaned glass bottles and stored
in a cooled ice chest. A chain-of-custody form will be completed and
included with the samples upon shipment to the Kennedy/Jenks/Chilton
Laboratory Division in San Francisco, California.
Task 5 - Laboratory Analysis of Soil , Groundwater, and Wipe Samples
The twelve samples collected from the storage yard will be shipped to the
Kennedy/Jenks/Chilton Laboratory Division for analysis. Laboratory analyses
will be performed in a normal two-week turnaround period, except for pesticide
analyses, which require three to four weeks. The proposed laboratory analysis
plan is shown in Table 3. Analyses of soil and groundwater samples collected
from the soil borings and monitoring wells include the gasoline constituents
benzene, toluene, and xylenes (BXT) ; diesel and gasoline hydrocarbon scans
(TPH); and nitrate. All surface samples will be analyzed for nitrates and
pesticides. Wipe samples will be analyzed for a variety of possible pesti-
cides. Determination of analyses for the wipe samples will be made upon
research of the pesticides stored in the warehouse. The four surface soil
samples collected from the vicinity of the storage trailers will be sent to a
state certified laboratory for Dioxin analysis.
5
