Kennedy/Jenks/Chilton
Glass Container
Fluid samples collected from the one-gallon glass container were
composited in the laboratory and analyzed for organochlorine pesticides
by EPA Method 8080. Results of this analysis did not indicate the
' presence of this class of pesticide at concentrations above method
detection limits Because of the strong pesticide odor noted during
sampling, the sample was further evaluated by gas chromatography
' followed by mass spectroscopy (GC/MS) . A computer library was used to
match the spectrum obtained from the sample with known chemical spectra.
The results of the library search identified the sample as a mixture of
methyl parathion and ethyl parathion A copy of the laboratory report
is included in Appendix A, Part 5.
DRUM DISPOSAL
' Following characterization of the drum contents, an oil recycler was
identified for disposal of the oil/water mixtures On 23 October 1990,
R.S. Refineries pumped the contents of the drums into a vacuum truck.
The liquid pumped from the drums was transported with a Uniform
Hazardous Waste Manifest to the R S. Refineries used oil recycling
facility. A copy of the manifest is provided in Appendix D.
' The drums were crushed on 24 September 1990 and transported to the
Kettieman Hills Class I landfill for disposal on 24 October 1990. The
crushed drums were transported with the pesticide trailer under the same
Uniform Hazardous Waste Manifest. A copy of the manifest is provided in
Appendix D.
tGLASS CONTAINER DISPOSAL
The glass bottle containing the mixture of ethyl parathion and methyl
parathion was added to one of the lab-pack drums containing the other
pesticides An Extremely Hazardous Waste permit was obtained from the
Department of Health Services for transporting the material to the
incinerator for disposal . A copy of the permit is provided in Appendix
G.
i
The lab-pack containing the glass container was transported with the
' other lab-packs under Uniform Hazardous Waste Manifest (a copy can be
found in Appendix D) to the Chemical Waste Management, Inc. facility 7n
Kettleman City on 15 February 1991 From there, the lab-packs were
transported to the Chemical Waste Management, Inc. incinerator In
Illinois for destruction.
' WPI13 5.3 882526 01
