Groundwater elevations were measured using a
well probe and reported as depth to water from a marked portion of the top of
each well casing. The average depth to water in all wells was approximately
10 feet for both sampling episodes. Elevations of the tops of the well casing
were surveyed on 9 May 1989 and are also provided in Table 2.
The approximate groundwater gradient calculated from the measurements taken on
25 May 1989 is shown on Figure 5. This gradient indicates groundwater
movement in a northern direction The groundwater gradient calculated from
- the April groundwater elevation measurements indicated groundwater movement in
the same direction.
Site Geology
Soils encountered during the drilling of the soil borings and monitoring wells
consisted of predominantly firm, lean clays with only minor amounts of sand
and silt. Color ranged from light brown to dark gray/green. Water was found
with the clay intervals with very little recognition of an aquifer-type
material .
During drilling, soil was monitored for the presence of organic vapors. The
results of this monitoring are shown on the boring logs in Attachment B.
Organic vapor analysis of the soils sampled during drilling indicated that
organic vapors were only present in the sods from the borings drilled near
the underground fuel storage tank
Trader Investigation
Although no analyses were performed in the storage trailer containers, they
were visually inspected for possible contents. Cargo containers one and three
were empty. Cargo container number two contained several smaller containers
of various pesticides Three corroded five-gallon containers of Alfa-Tox were
3 on a pallet near the door of the cargo container. Based on visual staining on
the floor area around the door, the material had apparently leaked. Due to
the leakage covering the entryway, the remaining contents of the traders were
inventoried from outside the trailer The chemicals inside consisted of
t (approximately) :
o Three five-gallon containers of Alfa-Tox which appeared to be
corroded and leaking, or leaked onto the floor of the cargo trailer
1
