I
Ix
i
PETER D'AMICO
HAROLD FODY
PAGE 2
this contaminated backfill material couldnot,, be determined at
the time of the piping removal as the area was quite extensive,
especially to the north of the dispenser 'island., This area must
be investigated with .soil borings .
As several soil borings will be required, ,1in addition to any
needed vapor extraction wells, in these areas!p PHS/EHD recommends
this work be completed with a drill rig capable of operating
underneath the existing canopy and beforelthe.ifinal slab is
{ completed at the site Otherwise this work '"shall be completed
i
within 45 days of the reopening of the station". In any event,
please include this additional work in the workplan addendum as
mentioned above.
During a site visit by PHS/EHD staff on December 1, 1994 ,
additional fiberglass product piping was "observed protruding to
the north out from under the kiosk located onhthe middle
dispenser island. The piping extends tothe northern portion of
the site, an area for which PHS/EHD has no record of underground
storage tanks . This piping must be removed and soil samples
obtained from over the length of the piping run.
If you have any questions or wish to discuss :this letter in more
detail , contact Diane Hinson, Supervising REHS, at..
