I
a.
upward with an elbow and capped or plugged. The exposed soil, within the box will be capped
with a thin layer of cement or concrete to prevent surface'water infiltration, while maintaining
possibility for future vapor extraction well installation, if needed.
i
5. Box #5 is vapor extraction well TB-9, which consists of two nested 2-inch vapor extraction
wells. These wells were designated to be part of the vapor extraction system. Upon further
exploration,it was found that the"lateral"for the remediation system was just capped and buried
within the well box. We will connect the lateral pipe to bothCextraction wells as part of the
system installation. Upon completion of the connection from the lateral piping to the extraction
wells, the bottom portion of the well box will be re-sealed with cement/concrete to prevent
surface water infiltration.
6. Box #6 is identical to box#4, we will do the same procedure to,this box#6 as to box 44.
7. The well identified as "J" on the previous map, located near the eastern dispenser island was a
boring, depicted on an old map as boring TB-14, which is no longer visible.
8. Well MW6 was inspected and found that a portion of the well box's skirt was bent inside, leaving
a small opening for surface water infiltration. It was agreed that this opening will be filled with j
cement/concrete. J
9. Since the remediation compound's slab slopes to the south-southwest, a new drain hole will be
installed on the southwest corner of the remediation compound-Is slab.
10. Other wells were inspected and considered adequately by Mr. Infurna. II
j
11. We were urged by Mr. Infurna to expedite the installation sof the system. We understand that we
will be back into "in-compliance" status as soon as the vapor extraction system is installed.
Thrifty has requested Earth Management Co. to perform the repair items discussed above. Part of
the repair will be performed on March 30 and 31, 1999, and the remaining repairs will be performed
on the week of April 5, 1999. Upon completion of these rgpairs,:,we will call you to schedule a
completion inspection.
Please do not hesitate to call me at(562) 921-3581 ext. 390 or Jeff Suryakusuma at ext. 311 if you
have any questions regarding this letter. i
Sincerely,
I
Chris Panaitescu }
General Manager
Environmental Affairs
i`
Enclosure: Updated Site Plan °I
Previous Site Plan
,a
