As I indicated to you, there are at least three major concerns that need to be addressed in any mitigation study; Water supply and quality, Wildlife preservation and traffic. Keeping in mind that only nine families now use Forest Lake Road and the condition of the road, I think that it would be advisable to consider two means of ingress and egress; that is Forest Lake Road and Jahant Road. As for wildlife, this project is probably the only way that the wildlife currently residing in the area has a chance to survive! Animals such as oppossums, raccoons and the like have demonstrated that they can live by people; but I am unsure about some of the birds such as the red- shouldered and red-tailed hawks. The big issue for potential consumers and for the current local residents is water. During the drought of 1977, when the vineyard pumped water, we could not because our irrigation well was in the cone of depression. Given the current water situation, the water supply and quality at the higher strata is not good. Also, golf courses must use a great deal of water to keep their greens and other plants alive and well. I do not know the answer to this one. The aquifer is mostly sand (from ancient sea beds) going down hundreds, if not thousands, of feet. It will be interesting to hear and read the EIR on this subject. Again, I am pleased for Mr. Brovelli;knowing how he likes golf. It will be nice for him to have a golf course in his back yard.
