Agreemeat (for the treatment and disposition of human remains, associated burial goods,
unassociat.d burial goods, sacred objects and sacred sites] between the lead agency (SJCCDD),
the developer, and the Tribe (see Appendix 1.3).
Walloupe(1992), representing the Amador Tribal Council, informed the SJCCDD that the Tribal
Council believes the "remains" at the Buckeye Ranch were left by ancestors of the Maximos
family currently residing in Ione. The Tribal Council, commenting on the Draft report of
Ananian and Rice (1991), found that the information presented was not sufficient for them to
offer specific recommendations. They suggested the boundaries of the sites had not been
established. They supported Johnson's (1992) proposal to conduct soil testing to identify the
boundaries of each cultural deposit, and expressed their desire for the development of a
reasonable and responsible plan for the management of the resources present (see Appendix 1.4).
In light of these comments and their own critical review, the SJCCDD concluded that additional
field work was needed (SJCCDD 1992). They required additional survey of specific project
locations to ensure that no prehistoric sites were missed and that previously recorded sites be
rerecorded to State Historic Preservation Office standards.
12
