Site Disturbances: Dawson excavated 2211 cubic feet of midden at _ 01 holes to a <br /> maximum depth of 3 feet) around 1929 (Schenck & Dawson 1929a:309). He also <br /> excavated 128 cubic feet at- (1 hole to a maximum depth of 4 feet). Mention is <br /> made in Cook and Heizer (1951:297) that in 1949 they excavated at , extracting 12 <br /> "samples" (1 foot in depth). According to Mr. Angelo Brovelli (previous land owner) the <br /> area was leveled sometime in the 1960s for agricultural purposes. Between the years of <br /> 1973 and 1975, Don McGeein and Marie Moyer excavated 20 units (5 feet X 5 feet) to a <br /> maximum depth of 69 inches. According to Don McGeein, weekend relic hunters also <br /> disturbed the area. At the present time, only a remnant of midden soil remains of the <br /> been recently disked. A vineyard and vehicular traffic impact the portion of the site south <br /> of the disked area (probably the original placement of The midden in this area <br /> appears very disturbed. <br /> 20. Nearest Water: The <br /> 21. Vegetation Community (site vicinity): Riparian and oak buckeye savannah. <br /> 22. Vegetation (on site): Introduced grasses and weeds including star thistle and mustard; <br /> valley and live oak, buckeye, cottonwood, and poison oak. . <br /> 23. Site Soil: Midden soil is dark grey-brown greasy fine silt with no gravel inclusions. (Soil <br /> samples # 54-57, 66-69) <br /> 24. Surrounding Soil: Light brown compact silty clay. <br /> 25. Geology: Riverbank Alluvium Formation. <br /> 26. Landform: Flood plain above the Mokelumne river bank. <br /> 27. Slope: Level. <br /> 28.
