Ecological Evaluation of Brovelli Woods P.C. Muick may indicate that the northern lake may have occasionally received water from flood events along Dry Creek. Between 1940 and 1952 the riparian forest to the west of the current property line was incrementally reduced, then completely cleared to a stringer forest by 1963 . More intensive agricultural use followed the clearing. I was told this property is still owned by the Brovelli family. A system of dirt roads meanders through the northern portion of the savanna and circles around the property through the northern edge of the forest . Along the eastern and southern boundaries there is a perimeter road. The roads have been in place for many decades . And as mentioned previously, a levee extends along the northern boundary from the western property line for about . 6 of a mile. I have not attemped to investigate uses of the site by Native Americans , or the early settlers . There is a possiblitity that Fremont passed through the area and may have recorded impressions in his journals. Current Land Use Cattle were grazing on the property as of my last visit in April . Four fairways have been cleared through the forest for the golf course and many lianas have been cut. Although one of the fairways made use of natural openings in the forest along an oxbow, other fairways were constructed through the closed canopy of the western forest. About two-thirds of the western forest was fragmented by the fairways , however, between the fairways , intact forest stands remain. Several fields in the southeast edge of the property are currently farmed and are leased back to the Brovelli family by Catwil . Anticipated Land Use Golf course An eighteen hole private golf course has been designed and is staked out on the property. The rest of the golf course in the savanna will generally work around existing trees. Alterations of the shoreline of the lake are planned to accomodate greens and holes. Infrastructure for the golf course will include a club house, non-paved paths connecting the fairways , an irrigation system, recontouring and turfing of the holes and greens. Approximately ninety acres of greens are planned. Normal maintenance on golf courses includes: seeding , fertilization, irrigation, weed and pest control and mowing. Roads andap the An new access road to the property, entering from the south and crossing the Mokelumne River is planned. This road will likely bisect the forest. Roads to homes and the clubhouse will be constructed. A non-paved path will connect the fairways along the golf course. It is anticipated that utility and water lines will be installed beneath or adjacent to the roads , or may be constructed across the land. It will be of interest to learn exactly where the roads will be located and how much of the existing road network will be incorporated into the 12
