accumulated runoff from Jahant Slough for total yearly rainfall <br /> amounts of 12 , 16 and 20 inches . These estimates do not take into <br /> account evaporation and seepage losses and are based on the <br /> assumption that 10% of the rainfall over the drainage area makes it <br /> into the lakes and that the lakes are empty at the start of the wet <br /> season . <br /> In most years since 1940 , any accumulated runoff in the lakes has <br /> been drained and/or pumped from the lake to the river, to allow dry <br /> farming of the lake bed. A man-made channel , labeled Point "A" , <br /> serves as the outlet to the river. A second man-made channel , <br /> labeled Point "B" , drains the North Lake into South Lake . Other <br /> modifications that have been made include the damming of a small side <br /> channel of South Lake to form a permanent water body, referred to as <br /> the "Beaver Pond" in Figure 1 . This pond is fed by irrigation tail <br /> water from a neighboring vineyard. <br /> Restoration and Water Management Plan <br /> Restoration of the lakes is intended to provide an enhanced <br /> environment for the benefit of both wildlife and the proposed <br /> golfcourse and limited recreational development . The primary <br /> objectives of the Water Management Plan are to provide a workable <br /> system to supply and maintain the lakes with an adequate amount of <br /> water to meet requirements and to provide a system for flood control . <br /> The anticipated beneficial uses of water stored in the lake include <br /> irrigation, wildlife habitat, and limited recreation. <br /> Water Procurement <br /> There are three primary sources of water available to supply the <br /> lake. These are, in order of economic preference: <br /> 1) Watershed runoff from Jahant Slough <br /> 2) Pumped water from the Mokelumne River <br /> 3) Pumped ground water . <br /> It is expected that each of these sources would contribute varying <br /> percentages to the overall water supply as hydrologic conditions <br /> change from year to year. In normal rainfall years there may be <br /> enough runoff from Jahant Slough to fill the lakes , however, it is <br /> expected that frequently there would not be enough runoff from Jahant <br /> Slough alone tc fill the lakes and supplemental water would have to <br /> be provided from the other two sources. <br /> Pumping of water from the Mokelumne River may not be possible at <br /> normal river water levels due to prior appropriation; however, <br /> considerable quantities may be available for use during periods of <br /> flood control releases from Camanche Reservoir. The aforementioned <br /> Peak Rain Flood and Snow Melt Frequency Curves shown in Figures 2 and <br /> 3 indicate that Flood releases from Camanche Reservoir of at least <br /> 1000 cubic feet per second should occur about once every two years or <br /> 1� <br /> 3 <br />
