County of San Joaquin - Safeway Distribution Center Air Quality Impacts Analysis
Jones & Stokes Associates will analyze the air quality impacts associated with the
Safeway Distribution Center in Tracy, California. The distribution center will be used to
supply Safeway stores located throughout northern California. The project consists of 1.8
million square feet of warehouse space located on 171 acres. The air impacts will consist
of short-term construction emissions and long-term operational emissions. The analysis will
focus on the long-term operational emissions, which are produced by heavy-duty Safeway
and vendor trucks and by light-duty commuter vehicles. If necessary, mitigation measures
will be developed to reduce the air quality impacts associated with this project.
Relevant Development Projects
Boyle Engineering Corporation - Botanical Survey for H Street Bridge Rehabilitation
Project
Jones& Stokes Associates was retained by Boyle Engineering Corporation to conduct
a reconnaissance-level vegetation survey for a City of Sacramento proposal to rehabilitate
the eastern approach to the H Street bridge over the American River. The objectives of the
survey were to characterize the dominant vegetative species at the site, to search for the
federal candidate plant species Sagittaria sanfordii, and to locate all elderberry shrubs in the
project area and describe their growth characteristics to develop possible mitigation
strategies. The elderberry is the host plant for the valley elderberry longhorn beetle, a
federally listed endangered species. A letter report presenting the findings of the survey was
prepared.
Sacramento County - Sunrise Bridge,Valley Elderberry Longhorn Beetle Mitigation Plan
Jones & Stokes Associates prepared a plan for mitigating the impacts on the valley
elderberry longhorn beetle (a federally listed endangered species) consequent to a widening
of Sunrise Boulevard bridge over the American River. The mitigation plan met all U.S.
Fish and Wildlife Service requirements and included a discussion of the legal requirements
for mitigating impacts on the beetle and a design program for mitigating the impacts.
Methods for locating a mitigation site, transplanting and replanting elderberry plants,
irrigating and maintaining the elderberries, and monitoring the mitigation work were all
addressed in the plan.
City of Folsom - American River Bridge Project EIR/EIS
Jones & Stokes Associates is preparing an EIR/EIS and other related technical
reports for the planned construction of a bridge across the American River in Folsom. The
environmental document is being prepared in compliance with U.S. Bureau of Reclamation
V-6
