Section 5. Section 6 presents the mechanisms for protecting vegetation during the
construction phase and into the future, including tree protection guidelines and a list of
restricted species. The first half of Section 7 contains a description of the plans for the
upland forests, savannas and grasslands while the second half explains the plans for the
wetlands, lakes, riparian habitats and vernal pools. Descriptions of pilot projects are
included for each plant community. The golf course areas are specially treated in Section 8.
Section 9 describes the monitoring program feedback loop to be used at Buckeye Ranch.
The feedback loop will incorporate information gained through monitoring which will be
used to improve and to fine-tune ongoing resource management decisions and restoration
projects. The limited residential project and public access are discussed in Sections 10 and
 11.
1.3 Deed of Conservation Easement
The owner of the property is preparing a deed of conservation easement(Appendix 6) in
conjunction with persons and groups who have an interest in preserving the environmental
values of the property. The conservation group that receives the easement will act as the
long-term steward to preserve, protect, and monitor in perpetuity the Great Valley live oak
forest, the oak-buckeye savanna, seasonal and permanent wetlands, and other natural
features of the property.
The easement will restrict uses of the property that would interfere with the health and
sustainability of the natural values and features of the property. Also, the easement will
provide for activities that would enhance the property. General public access is not
contemplated, with the intent being that the property continues to function as a nature
preserve. The deed and the Resource Plan are related in that the plan is the implementation
and monitoring document of the deed.
Buckeye Ranch Resource Plan (November, 1993)
16
