Western Forest <br /> The gently rolling 52 acres underlying the western forest contains areas of sediment <br /> deposition, surface drainage features, and at least one large oxbow. Six of the ten survey <br /> plots were located in this section The total area of the plots was 0.15 acres for a .003 <br /> percent coverage of the forest. In addition to survey plots,five tree stumps that had been <br /> previously cut for the fairways were aged, species determined, and photographed. <br /> Interior live oak, valley oak and box elder were the major woody tree species, with <br /> occasional buckeye, cottonwood, buttonbush and ash observed. The average canopy cover <br /> in this section was 92 percent, shrub cover averaged 7 percent and the herbaceous cover <br /> was 53 percent. Approximately five vines (lianas) of grape and poison oak were found on <br /> each plot. There were an average of seven woody species on each plot.
