The four survey plots located in the eastern forest totaled one-tenth of an acre for <br /> an 0.003 percent sample. Interior live oak valley oak, box elder, cottonwood, ash, walnut, <br /> and buttonwillow were observed. A narrow stringer of oak forest, bordering the <br /> southeastern segment of the Mokelumne River was not included in either the estimate or the <br /> plot survey. The row of trees bordering the drainage channel from the southern lake were <br /> likewise excluded from the eastern forest survey. Tree canopy averaged 83 percent. The <br /> shrub layer covered an average of 32 percent of the ground area and the herbaceous ground <br /> cover was estimated at 61 percent. An average of three vines of grape and poison oak, and <br /> an average of seven woody plant species were identified on each plot.
