Conversion of North Tracy Lake to Permanent Lake Habitat No Impact
Since the lakebed was drained and farmed in tall sudan grass,it does not provide suitable
habitat for Swainson's hawk foraging.
Conversion of South Tracy Lake to Permanent Lake: No Impact
Sixty-five acres will be deepened and maintained as a permanent lake with houses along the
western shoreline. The lake has, in the past been drained and farmed in tall sudan grass,
thus not providing habitat suitable for the hawk.
Increased Human Presence: Short-term Negative Impact.
Increased human activity may have short term impacts on nesting Swainson's hawks. The
fact that Swainson's do nest in close proximity to human activity does attest to the fact that
they are capable of adjusting to increased human presence on Buckeye Ranch. Mitigation
measures planned for the property will more than offset these perceived impacts. Auto
traffic increases from the south have been designed by Muick, et. al.• to minimize impact
on potential nesting trees (emergent cottonwoods present in the low lying portions of the
forest).
MITIGATION ACTIONS
Goal 1: To protect existing suitable nesting habitat and trees.
Action 1: Establish wildlife sanctuary on Buckeye Ranch
Buckeye Ranch Resource Plan (November, 1993)
120
