benefit Swainson's hawk.
Action 3. Restore "grreentree" woodland.
The planned restoration of patches of "greentree" (winter flooded)
woodland habitat will again provide a mixture of understory and canopy
trees that provides important nesting opportunities for Swainson's hawks.
The restoration of this habitat will create 20 acres of nesting habitat for
Swainson's hawk.
Goal 5: Limit public access to the property.
Action 1. Close Forest Lake Road.
The plan to close Forest Lake Road at the eastern boundary of the property
will reduce traffic and human disturbance to fields north of the property.
This reduced human presence will benefit Swainson's hawks foraging in
these fields, as well as other open country foraging raptors.
Action 2. Control illegaluespass on the property.
Currently, illegal trespass and poaching are a problem on the Buckeye
property. Once the project is approved the land owners will strictly regulate
trespass and illegal hunting. This control will protect Swainson's hawks on
the property from illegal shooting and uncontrolled disturbance.
Buckeye Ranch Resource Plan (November, 1993)
125
