Ms. Kerry Sullivan
April 8, 1992
Page 6
Page 3 - 15
Impairment of the scientific potential of the site cannot be mitigated by capping the sites or
C160 excavating a portion of the affected area.
How about just not touching the sites and leaving them be.
Page 3 - 15
Due to the severity of the impacts associated with the proposed plan and the rarity of the sites
affected, impacts to the complex from the proposed housing and recreational development are
C161 not mitigable unless the project is redesigned.
Same "subjective"comment. This should be written: "If the objective is to preserve the continuity, as
opposed to disturbing actual sites,then these mitigating measures would be appropriate."
Paae 3 - 15
The following elements of the proposed development must be abandoned at their present
location on highly significant archaeological sites and redesigned in areas designated low to
moderate archaeological sensitivity:
- Buckeye Drive from Coyote Court to, and including,Live Oak Court;
- Deer Trail Court;
- Valley Oak Drive south of the north lines of Lots 21 and 22;
C162 - Lots 2, 3, 4, 11, 12, 13, 19, 20, 21, nd 22; and
- the southern half of lots 5 and 14.
In order to avoid known habitation and burial sites, the proposed access road and
bridge to Davis Road should be moved 800 feet to the east from where it crosses
Mokelumne River. The existing dirt road should not be altered,and because of previous
disturbance,a three-foot layer of fill should be added.
Golf links numbers 1, 6, 7, 8, 9, 11, and 12, plus the club house, must be eliminated or
relocated off known habitation and burial sites.
The southern margin of the proposed irrigated pasture land must be relocated 600 feet
north of the southern border of the property to prevent further degradation of the site as
a result of irrigation.
Areas designated for storage of excavated landscaping soil must be moved to the
eastern half of the project area.
All sewage leach fields must avoid the area of high archaeological sensitivity.
Any homesite which would disturb an actual cultural site should be relocated. Roadways should avoid
cultural sites where feasible,and encapsulate burial sites when avoidance is otherwise not feasible. The
golf course design should be such as to not cut into any cultural site, and preserve features visible on
the ground surface.
pace 3 - 16
In order to avoid known habitation and burial sites, the proposed access road and bridge to
C163 Davis Road should be moved 800 feet to the east from where it crosses Mokelumne River. The
existing dirt road should not be altered,and because of previous disturbance,a three-foot layer
of fill should be added.
III-121
