Hazelton Avenue
Stockton, CA 95205-6232
Dear Mr. Sullivan:
I am writing you to respond to the Draft Environmental Impact
report for the proposed Buckeye Ranch project. Mr. Joe
DiCristina asked me to review portions of the report and
comment on areas concerning the golf course. Enclosed you
will find information describing the USGA Green Section.
The Buckeye Ranch project appears to be a marvelous site for
combining golf and nature. There are many success stories
that have been accomplished in this regard and many more to
come as the golf industry becomes more aware of environmental
concerns as they pertain to golf courses . The idea of using
as much natural vegetation and newer varieties of grasses
that require less water. fertilizers and pesticides is an
excellent idea that is endorsed.
Specifically. my main purpose in writing this letter was to'
discuss 4. 7 - 4. (use of herbicides would potentially damage
the natural environment) . While I completely agree with
minimizing drift of herbicides from the neighboring
environment, the example given of Roundup movement from the C263
golf course or home owners to the natural environment should
be of little or no concern. Roundup is a translocating
material , however once applied the only way Roundup will move
is through physical contact or an extremely hard rain with
resulting runoff. Roundup becomes completely immobile when
it contacts soil and will simply not move once it has been
given time to dry.
TU-157
