The Audubon Society of New York State, Inc.
'Q Hollyhock Hollow Sanctuary, Route 2, Box 131 • Selkirk, NY 12158 • 518-767-9051
NEW YORK
AUDUBON January 11, 1993
SOCIETY
Mr. Kerry Sullivan, Senior Planner
San Joaquin County D >
Community Development Department
1810 E. Hazelton Avenue
Stockton, CA 95205-6232 JAN 15 J993
Dear Mr. Sullivan: COMMUNrII' DEVtLUt-mlr_NT DEPT.
PLANNING DIVISION
Thank you for sending the latest materials concerning the proposed Buckeye Ranch
Project, SCH No. 91012103. We appreciate the opportunity to review such documents.
I am enclosing some information concerning our Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary
Program for your information. It was because of this program that the owners of the
Buckeye Ranch property first contacted us. We have visited the proposed development site
and have transmitted to the landowner our thoughts concerning the project. An integral
part of our program for proposed facilities is the required adoption by the landowner of our
"Audubon Sustainable Resources Management Principles" as a guidance document for the
planned development. Since our initial visit, we have not heard from the landowners in
regard to their adoption of our principles nor in regard to continuing any relationship with D1
New York Audubon.
Our opinion is that the proposed project could be designed in such as manner so as
to preserve a unique and biologically important habitat area. However, you should know
that since we have not heard from the landowner nor their consultants since our initial site
visit,we assume they are not interested in pursuing"Audubon Signature Status,"nor are they
interested in being members of the Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program.
Consequently, we would like to make it very clear that we are no longer advising them, nor
are we privy to the present planning relative to the proposed project.
Thank you again for the information. If we can be of any further assistance, please
feel free to contact us.
S' erely yours,
Ronald G. Dodson
President
VI-31
