Certification
During the initial planning stages of the development, the landowner should
consider and design an environmental plan which incorporates the recommendations
provided by New York Audubon in the Conservation Guide. In order to recognize the
positive conservation efforts undertaken by the planners, the landowner may apply for
provisional certification (Certificates of Achievement for Environmental Planning) in the
following areas: Wildlife Conservation, Habitat Enhancement, Waste Management,
Energy Efficiency, and Water Conservation. Certificates are based upon standards
established by New York Audubon for each site. The landowner must submit a specific
proposal for implementation for each area. Permanent certification is based upon review
by New York Audubon of proposed plans in each of the areas and the landowner
securing the necessary governmental permits to construct. A more detailed description
of the certification process and criteria of environmental planning areas is available upon
request.
Other Services
Upon registering in the program, the landowner will receive a Certificate of
Registration as well as a subscription to Field Notes, the publication of the Audubon
Cooperative Sanctuary System. It is understood that the landowner will have limited
access to New York Audubon staff via telephone and mail during the planning and
development phases. Should it-be necessary, we %rill also be available for additional
planning services and agency meetings on an additional fee basis.
Membership Fee
Membership in the Audubon Signature Cooperative Sanctuary Program is $4,500.
This fee includes all of the services listed above and includes the period of time from
registration until completion of the project (or until the project is terminated due to lack
of permits, insufficient funding, or any other reason). The $4,500 includes an initial site
visit by an Audubon staff member, if desired, and the required final audit (after
construction) site visit. Please note that both site visits do not include travel expenses.
AUDUBON SIGNATURE STATUS
REQUIREMENTS
Upon completion of the project, the landowner may apply for the designation of
Audubon Signature Status. The granting of Audubon Signature Status will be contingent
upon a final audit including:
1) a site visit by a New York Audubon staff person after construction of the
project;
2) implementation and compliance with proposals for each area of Environmental
Planning Certification;
i
3) performance and completion of all development and conservation activities.
VI-33
