The Phase II-Environmental Site Assessment was performed
to assess the likelihood that the shallow soils beneath the subject site remain grossly
impacted with total petroleum hydrocarbons and or purgeable aromatic hydrocarbons. The
following report presents our findings.
I. SUMMARY
The shallow soils beneath the subject site were assessed by Anthony-Taylor
Consultants on December 3, 1997. The purpose of the assessment was to determine
if the soils beneath the subject site remain grossly impacted by an unauthorized
release of petroleum hydrocarbons associated with former underground storage tanks
removed from the subject site. This assessment consisted of advancing seven borings
in the area of the former storage tank that contained gasoline. Each of the borings
were advanced to depths of thirty feet below ground surface with samples being
obtained at five foot increments. The results of the assessment indicated that the
shallow soils are not grossly impacted with either Total Petroleum
Hydrocarbons (TPH) nor with purgeable aromatic hydrocarbons (BTEX).
However, it should be noted that TPH and BTEX do exist in the subsurface at
concentrations near the constituents recommended action levels and that the San
Joaquin County Health Division knew the contamination existed when they closed
the site in 1996 and that "Hot Spots" were expected to exist in the subsurface
(Lagorio, 1997).
CIVIL•STRUCTURAL•GEOTECHNICAL•ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEERING•TESTING&INSPECTION•ARCHITECTURE•CONSTRUCTION MANAGEMENT
y.r
