The two soil samples collected in Work Area #3 were non-detect (<0.0001 asbestos weight percent) for asbestos. CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS A total of 24 soil samples were collected, fourteen confirmation soil samples within three Work Areas (former stockpiles) and 10 background soil samples. Twenty- three (23) soil samples were <0.0001 asbestos weight percent. One (1) soil sample 2-K2 from Work Area #2 had a reported concentration of chrysotile asbestos at 0.0001 percent. The chrysotile asbestos type was identified in a total of 3 soil samples (1 background soil sample BG-K6, and 2 confirmation samples, 2-K2 and 2-K6 in Work Area 42). According to Title 22 of the California Code of Regulations Section 66261.24 (22 CCR X66261.24) the total concentration of asbestos required to make a waste "a hazardous waste" is 1 percent by weight. The asbestos detected on site is at or less than 1/10,000 of that total concentration. Kleinfelder therefore recommends no further investigation or clean-up in the areas investigated.
