08 December 1998 <br />AGE -NC Project No. 96-0235 <br />Page 2 of 7 <br />3.0. ON-SITE CONTROL <br />The Site Safety Officer will coordinate site access control and security. A exclusion zone will be <br />established approximately 10 feet around excavation location and work areas. No unauthorized <br />person shall be allowed within this exclusion area. <br />4.0. HAZARD EVALUATION <br />The following substance(s) or hazards are known or suspected to be on site. <br />The primary hazards of each are identified as follows: <br />1. Hydrocarbon fuels - Components of fuels are colorless liquids with strong aromatic <br />petroleum hydrocarbon -like odors. They are flammable and have low solubility in water. <br />Exposure to these materials in excess of recommended exposure limits can cause mild eye, <br />nose, and throat irritation and can produce a narcotic effect on the central nervous system. <br />Symptoms of exposure at these concentrations include headache, nausea, drowsiness, <br />dizziness, and loss of coordination. Certain components of gasoline (BTE&X etc.) are known <br />or suspected carcinogens. <br />The additional potential hazards include: Slip -trip -fall hazards, open excavation, noise, heayy <br />equipment i.e..
