.4-0 ATG Leak Test Molb(ln-Tank)
In most areas of the country when Automatic Tank
Gauge Probes are utilized as the sole method for leak
detection, it is required that a .2 gallon per hour Leak
Test using these probes be performed and passed at
least once a month on each tank. (Check your local
regulations for requirements in your area).
Because the frequency and types of testing do vary, we
have provided 4 methods in which the EMS console
may run Automatic Tank Gauge Leak Tests; they are:
1. Automatic Leak Test (ALT) - In this mode of
operation, the EMS console continually scans the
-activity in the tank and determines the times in which
no fuel is being dispensed or delivered. These times are
referred to as "Quiet Times". During these "Quiet
^Times" the EMS console automatically begins its leak
check program. If the EMS has a sufficient amount of
time to conclude a test, the results will be logged in the
Leak Test history file (See Figure 3, page 7-8). If
during a test someone dispenses fuel, the EMS Console
will abort the Leak Test in progress and wait for
another "Quiet Time" to automatically start the test
once again.
A report will be printed in the event the EMS fails a
Leak Test, along with activation of the RED ALARM
LED, the audible alarm and the line four message on
the display. In addition, you have the option of having
a report printed automatically for all passed Leak Tests
as well.
Because these Leak Tests must be performed in most
cases on a monthly basis due to regulatory
requirements, the EMS console can also be
programmed to notify the operator in the event it was
unable to perform a Leak Test automatically on a tank
during the month. This warning will be a YELLOW
_WARNING LED, audible alarm and a message on line
four of the display as well as a printed reminder (See
Figure 5, page 10). The number of days prior to the
--end of the month in which this warning will be
activated can be set by your TIDEL AUTHORIZED
SERVICE DEALER.
In the event you receive such a warning, you must
provide adequate "Quiet Time" for the EMS Console to
w
conclude an ATAILeak Test. This may be
accomplished byWt dispensing from or receiving
fuel into the tank under this "Warning" for 1 to 6
hours, to allow the EMS.console the opportunity to
conclude a test. The length of this test is dependent
on the stability of the temperature and level in the
tank.
There is also a regulatory requirement in some states
to run an Automatic Tank Gauge test at a minimum
tank capacity (commonly 80% full). The EMS can
also be programmed to provide a warning if an ATG
Leak Test has not been performed at this level or
higher during the year (See Figure 5). If you receive
this warning, the tank must be filled to the acceptable
level and adequate "Quiet Time" provided so the
EMS may run a Leak Test (See Figure 5a).
2. Timed Leak Tests (TLT) - In this mode of
operation the EMS Console will run a Leak Test
daily, weekly or monthly at preprogrammed start and
stop times. The EMS Console will always print a
leak check beginning and ending report in this mode
of operation.
3. By an operator from the keypad - See pages 11-
14 for a description on how to manually start and stop
an ATG Leak Test.
4. By remote communications via phone modems
or direct communications - See page 30 for more
information on communication links into the EMS.
Both the (ALT) and (TLT) must be set up by a
Tidel Authorized Service Dealer.
Regardless of the means of activation, the Leak Test
will be terminated automatically by the EMS
Console. Leak Tests will run one (1) to six (6) hours,
depending upon the level of fuel in the tank,
temperature, stability, etc.... To perform a leak
check, the tank or manifold group of tanks under
test must be in a static condition (no product being
delivered or dispensed). Selected tanks may be
tested individually or simultaneously. During a leak
check, visual or printed information may still be
obtained with the keyswitch in NORMAL position.
When a tank or manifold group of tanks is placed into
the ATG Leak Test Mode, a Leak Test Enable Report
will be printed showing: your station ID number;
