Determine the fittings to be used
on each end of the primary pipe.
Find the corresponding numbers
in Table 2.2.1 (X1 for first fitting,
and X2 for the second fitting); sub-
tract them from the OAL. This wil I
be length of the containment pipe.
Example: If 2" (50mm) product pipe is 20 ft., 6 in.
(6,248mm) long, and you are using a 900 elbow on
one end and a 450 elbow on the other end, then cut
the containment pipe 20 ft., 2 in. (6,147mm).
WARNING: Since every insertion of
the primary piping may vary, dry fit
all secondary containment connec-
tions to make sure that the insertion is
approximately 3". Be sure that the
containment pipe is riot inserted too
far into the containment fitting. The
glossy O.D. of the pipe should not be
seated in the containment fitting.
2.2.4 Fitting assembly
All containment fittings consist of two
halves with flanges as shown in Fig-
Adhesive -Apply to
both halves and to pipe
1/16" minimum thickness
I t
Make sure pipe fits
snugly into fitting socket
and that no gap exists.
Figure 2.2.5
Calculation:
20'6" - 2-1/8" (fitting #1, 900 ell)
- 1-7/8" (fitting #2, 450 ell)
= 20'2"
or
6,248mm - 54mm (fitting #1, 90° ell)
- 48mm (fitting #2, 45° ell)
= 6,147mm
ure 2.2.3. The bottom half has
threaded inserts for ease of assembly.
These fittings are assembled with
adhesive and 1/4-20 washer -head
bolts that are furnished with the fit-
tings. The required bolts are supplied
in small plastic bags. If extra bolts are
required, these can be purchased from
your distributor or standard 1/4-20 x
1 -inch long hex head bolts can be
used. If standard bolts are used, place
a flat washer on the bolt before torqu-
ing.
28
The bonding surfaces of the contain-
ment fittings are supplied from the
factory pre -sanded. Two-piece sec-
ondary containment fittings must be
joined using a greater amount of ad-
hesive than is necessary for joining
bell and spigot joints of product pip-
ing. See Figure 2.2.5.
