will rest loosely on the blade holder <br />until it is locked into place using the <br />supplied alien screws. The two alien <br />screws should now be positioned so <br />that each makes LIGHT contact with <br />the bearing plate (See Figure 2.2.1). <br />NOTE: The alien screws only prevent <br />the blade holder from opening during <br />use. <br />The tool is now prepared to remove <br />("scarf") the resin gloss from the ends <br />of the containment pipe. After re- <br />moving the gauge, insert the tool into <br />the pipe to be scarfed until the point <br />of the blade just touches the end of <br />the pipe. Note: The tool must be <br />rotated in the same direction the wide <br />side of the blade faces. Advance the <br />tool in approximately 1/4 -inch (6 mm) <br />increments after each revolution. <br />Continue the operation until the resin <br />gloss has been removed for a mini- <br />mum length of 3 inches (75mm). <br />An alternate method to prepare pipe <br />ends is to sand with 30-40 grit sand <br />paper or emery cloth to remove all <br />surface gloss. Belt sanders, power <br />grinders, or a coarse -cut flat file may <br />also be used. The sanded length must <br />be a minimum of 3 inches (75mm). <br />Note: Sanded pipe ends musta[wayE <br />fit snugly into the socket of the fit- <br />ting. See Figure 2.2.2. <br />2.2.3 Pipe assembly <br />The containment pipe must be posi- <br />tioned over the product pipe before <br />bonding the product pipe. Pre-instal- <br />lation'of the secondary containment <br />pipe (only) is best accomplished at <br />the same time the product pipe is dry - <br />fitted together. This will speed up <br />installation and prevent unnecessary <br />delays. <br />Where possible, temporarily place <br />containment fitting halves around the <br />product fittings. This measure will <br />help prevent foreign material from <br />entering the containment pipe. See <br />Figure 2.2.3. <br />The containment fittings should be <br />installed and the containment system <br />tested after the product piping system <br />has been tested.
