7 ({
D. Training Time: Give 4 hours of training for every system installed.
PART2-PRODUCTS
2.01 UNDERGROUND FUEL STORAGE TANKS ,
A. General: Tank shall be double wall construction consisting of a steel primary tank container within a
Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic (FPR) secondary containment. Minimum thickness of FPR jacket shell and
heads shall comply with the minimum thickness requirements of ASTM D4021.
B. Tank Size: 8.5' diameter 33' long with 12,000 gallon capacity.
C. Loading Conditions: The double wall tank shall be designed to withstand the following load in addition to
other normal operating loads.
1. Internal Loads:
a. Primary tank shall be tested to 5 psi.
b. FRP secondary containment shall be proof tested by a vacuum within the interstitial space of 20
inches mercury.
2. External Hydrostatic Pressure Loads:
a. Load imposed when buried in the ground with 4 feet of overburden over the top of the tank, the hole
fully flooded and a safety factor of 10:1 for FRP secondary containment.
b. Buried in the ground with 4 feet of overburden over to top of the tank, with the tank empty, and the
hole fully flooded, the FRP secondary containment shall have a safety factor of 10:1 against failure
for anchoring loads and manufacturer approved hold down straps have a safety factor of 3:1 against
failure.
3. Surface Loads: When buried, the tanks as a unit shall be able to withstand H-20 axle loads applied at
ground surface.
4. Tanks shall be designed to support all necessary equipment and accessories as detailed in engineering
drawings and other sections of project specifications.
C. Construction - Jacketed Tank:
1. Tank: Jacketed secondary containment type. (Migration Certification Required for FRP secondary).
2. Leak Monitoring: Built with provisions for leak detection systems to detect leaks in either the primary
or the secondary tank shell. A factory production line test of a minimum of 20" Hg vacuum on the
interstitial space shall be performed to insure that no leaks exist in the primary and secondary tank. The
tank will be shipped and installed with an interstitial vacuum of no less than 12" Hg to verify that no
leaks develop during transportation or installation.
3. Striker Plate: Provide tank -manufacturer -installed steel striker plates beneath each tank opening.
Rolled to tank contour and bonded or seam -welded in place.
4. UL Listing: The tank must be produced by a UL listed manufacturer with the UL 58 and 1746 Labels
intact on the product when delivered to the site. Tank shall meet hazardous material storage
requirements.
5. Surface Loading: Withstand surface loading of H-20 (32,000 lbs.) axle when properly installed
according to tank manufacturer's recommendations. Tank shall withstand 7 feet of overburden with
hole fully flooded with a 3:1 safety factor against buckling.
6. Product Compatibility: Petroleum products with specific gravity up to 1.1 and of storing gasoline or
gasohol (in any alcohol percentage, 100 percent methanol, 100 percent ethanol, or combination thereof),
diesel fuel, and stoddard solvent up to a maintained temperature of 150 degrees F.
7. Primary Tank: Primary tank shall be constructed of steel with thickness as specified in Table 3.1 of UL
58 with reduction for any reason.
UNDERGROUND FUEL STORAGE TANK
0 70601:HTL:lc:cw 13215-4 CH 107517 / 107518
