2. Cover slab with at least 12 inches of backfill material, free of rock and debris.
3. While installing tanks to proper slope, maintain minimum pea gravel bed.
F. Burial Depth and Top Concrete Slab:
1. Depth of Hole: Refer to Drawings.
2. Top Concrete Slab Dimensions: Center slab over tank.
a. Slab Length: Tank length + 4 feet minimum.
b. Slab Width: Tank width + 4 feet minimum.
3. Maximum Depth of Cover: 7 feet maximum.
G. Installation Procedure - Dry Hole:
1. Bed: Minimum 12 inch pea gravel backfill bed over concrete anchor slab, sloped down toward fill end
of tank, as shown on Drawings. Place tanks in hole on backfill bed.
a. Caution: Do not place tanks directly on concrete slab or grout tanks in wet concrete. D® not place
tanks on anything but 12 inch pea gravel bed.
2. Backfilling:
a. Pour backfill, using same material as bed, to top of tank in 12 inch lifts. Insure backfill material
flows under tank and end caps.
b. Do not add water or product in tank before backfill material is to top of tank. (Exception: See
Installation Procedure - Wet Hole).
3. Leveling.to Grade:
a. Bring excavation to within 1 foot, 10 inches of grade with same backfill material.
b. Finish leveling with compacted aggregate base.
c. Caution: Remove bricks or blocks used to support piping prior to filling -to grade.
d. Barricade: To prevent any vehicle travel over tanks.
H. Installation Procedure - Wet Hole:
1. Water Level: Maintain water level at lowest practical level during installation. Use a system of
wellpoints and pumps to minimize water level in hole. Number of wellpoints required will depend on
water flow rate into hole.
2. Shoring: Use appropriate shoring to insure that sides of hole remain stable and that adjoining property
is unaffected.
3. Ballast:
a. Place tanks in hole adding only enough ballast to sink them. Ballast level in tanks shall never
exceed water level in hole during installation.
b. Use only lifting cable while adding ballast to keep tanks in position. Tanks should be free to roll
slightly. Carefully tend lift cables. Caution: Never place tanks on timbers, beams or cradles.
4. Backfill: Distribute backfill evenly around tanks and continue procedure outlined for dry hole 1
installation.
UNDERGROUND FUEL STORAGE TANK
r-
070601:HTL:lc:cw 13215 -20 CH 107 517 / 107518
