TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS <br />USING NSS 37E EPDXY/FRP TANK LININGS <br />PAGE 4 <br />C] <br />3. CLEANING AND SURFACE PREPARATION <br />A. Employees entering the tank and those handling tank sludge, <br />will be fully clothed so that arms, legs, head and torso <br />are protected from contact with the tank residue and the <br />coating resins, and shall wear oil and water,resistant <br />boots and gloves. In addition, protective respiratory <br />equipment providing positive air pressure, in a full <br />facepiece mask, will be worn by those entering the tank <br />before and during the sediment and water removal, <br />sandblasting and removal of residue and during the lining <br />application. Protective equipment shall be provided, used <br />and maintained in a sanitary and reliable condition. <br />Persons working in the tank when respirators are required, <br />will be equipped with safety harnesses and safety lines. <br />Standby employees shall be available and capable of lifting <br />workers from the tank in an emergency. Communications <br />shall be maintained on a constant basis between the workers <br />and the stand-by employees. <br />B. Inspection of the interior may be made with one of several <br />forms of internal inspection lamps or flashlights approved <br />for Class 1, Division 11 Group D Hazard locations. <br />C. Pumps used for the removal of bottom sediment and water <br />shall be explosion proof. Shovels used to remove solid <br />sludge shall be of the non-ferrous or sparkproof type. <br />D. The interior tank surfaces are to be sandblasted to a white <br />metal finish. The shovels used to remove the residue shall <br />be the same as in 3. C. above. All corrosion, scale, sand <br />and dirt are to be removed and walls shall be vacuumed <br />clean. Sandblasting and prime coating shall not take longer <br />than 8 hours. <br />E. Holes are to be located and plugged with boiler plugs, base <br />resin, trowel material and reinforced with glass fibers. <br />Seams are to be filled with trowel material to give a <br />smooth surface for better application of the liner. <br />4. LINER APPLICATION <br />A. The resin prime coat shall be applied immediately after the <br />sandblasting is complete and must begin not later than 8 <br />hours following the time the surface was blasted and before <br />any sign of visible rust bloom. If visible rust is <br />apparent, the surface shall be reblasted prior to priming. <br />B. The laminate and seal coat shall be applied next according <br />to the attached specifications. It shall be not less than <br />110 mils in thickness with no drips, runs, or sags. <br />
