extinguisher. Large fuel fires may use several hoses to contain the fire area (not
sprayed directly into the flames), and to keep items around the fire cool and the fire
from spreading.
Evacuation and the emergency shut down of the facility is part of the normal
employee training program. For afire, explosion, earthquake or airborne release,
employees are to evacuate the building and site. Then the proper authorities are to
be called and informed of the situation. Management personnel are to shut off the
flow to fuel islands via the "emergency shutoff'switch, and if possible without
endangering themselves or others, shut off the main electrical breaker.
Cooking areas are to be cleaned, inspected and tested on a schedule (records are
located in the General Managers office) Broken or otherwise unsafe equipment will
not be used. Employees have been trained in the proper use, storage and handling of
cooking grease. Cooking grease releases shall be mitigated in such a way as to
ensure individual health and safety as a highest priority. Injured individuals which
may have come into contact with a release should first be taken to a safe location and
then administered first aid either by those qualified or specially trained and an
ambulance called if there is any doubt as to the severity of the burn. The release
should be stopped as soon as possible, if safe to do so, by turning off burners,
shutting valves, righting overturned equipment, etc. Any spills should be contained in
a localized area. This is done with absorbent pads, booms, or other materials located
on site. As cooking grease is extremely hot, and may cause other material to burn, a
fire extinguisher is to be used to contain any fires; WATER IS NOT TO BE USED
ON GREASE FIRE.
Sewage releases shall be stopped at their source ifpossible. This may involve
shutting off sewage release valves on RV's,placing RV sewage tubes into sewage
dump sinks, or turning off water supplied to toilets. Any sewage that may have been
released should be contained in an area to prevent migration. This is done with
absorbent pads, weirs, booms, or other materials located on site.
