Cc:Julie Jeleti <jjeleti@ssjid.com>
Subject: RE: Aqueous Ammonia 19%SDS
CAUTION:This email is originated from outside of the organization. Do not click links or open attachments unless you recognize the
sender and know the content is safe.
Hi Garrett,
Thank you for the explanation. Our goal is to comply with the Counties involved but to also look at this situation as
realistically as possible. We will purchase a hazardous waste container and maintain the ammonia on site. When it
comes time for disposal, we will take it to a disposal facility and keep the receipts on file.
Thanks and have a good day,
Charles Galea
Chief Plant Operator
South San Joaquin Irrigation District
Phone (209) 844-1505
Cell (209) 652-7446
cgalea@ssiid.com
From: Backus, Garrett [EHD] <gbackus@sigov.org>
Sent:Thursday, September 24, 2020 11:35 AM
To: Charles Galea <cgalea@ssiid.com>
Cc:Julie Jeleti <iieleti@ssiid.com>
Subject: RE: Aqueous Ammonia 19%SDS
Charles,
I just emailed you and Hani to explain my justification for allowing Remote Consolidation. If it's not allowed by
Stanislaus County then you'll need to update CERS and answer yes to HW generator at the Tracy Booster site, obtain
an EPA ID for the Tracy address, maintain the aqueous ammonia on site in closed, labeled hazardous waste container
and dispose of as hazardous waste.
If the Hazardous waste of this type cannot be consolidated at another generator site (Oakdale)then it must be stored
and disposed of as HW. Two possible ways of handling the hazardous waste:
1. It needs to be hauled by your personnel to an appropriate disposal site such as the San Joaquin County Small
Business Hazardous Waste facility at the Stockton
Airport https://www.sigov.org/solidwaste/dynamic?id=22653 and get a receipt.
2. It can be hauled from the Tracy site by a registered hazardous waste transporter who has you sign a hazardous
waste transporter manifest.
I don't think that Hills Bros is a registered hazardous waste transporter who can provide the appropriate disposal
paperwork . When we inspect your site we'll need to see disposal records, either a disposal receipt from the County
facility or the hazardous waste manifest.
Garrett Backus, Ld. Sr. RENS, CUPA programs
San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department
3
