1868 E Hazelton Ave, Stockton, CA 95205
Desk: (209)468-2986 Cell: (209)616-3030
Email: abackus(@siaov.ora
https://www.siaov.org/der)artment/envhealth/
A" 10UIN
From: Charles Galea <cgalea@ssiid.com>
Sent:Thursday, September 24, 2020 9:29 AM
To: Backus, Garrett [EHD] <gbackus@sigov.org>
Subject: FW: Aqueous Ammonia 19%SDS
CAUTION:This email is originated from outside of the organization. Do not click links or open attachments unless you recognize the
sender and know the content is safe.
Good morning Garrett,
We have been working with Stanislaus County on the ability for us to consolidate the 1 gallon of Aqueous Ammonia
from the Tracy Pump Station to the WTP site in Oakdale CA. They said we could not and sited the California Health and
Safety Code section 25110.10 saying that because this waste has a waste code D002, it is regulated as a RCRA hazardous
waste and cannot be consolidated at another site. We asked if we diluted the ammonia with water, would that change
the disposal requirements and they said that by diluting the ammonia, that may be considered treatment of the
waste. What are your thoughts on this?
Since this is the position of Stanislaus County, we have filled out the CERS form by selecting "No"to using the Oakdale
WTP as a consolidation site. Our only options now are to store the ammonia at Tracy until we reach the 26 gallon limit
and dispose of it from there as needed or coordinate with Hill Brothers (Ammonia vendor)to take the gallon with them
following the next ammonia delivery.
Thanks for your guidance on this,
Have a good day
Charles Galea
Chief Plant Operator
South San Joaquin Irrigation District
Phone (209) 844-1505
Cell (209) 652-7446
cgalea@ssiid.com
From:Julie Jeleti <iieleti@ssiid.com>
Sent: Friday, September 18, 2020 9:03 AM
To: Charles Galea <cgalea@ssiid.com>
Subject: FW: Aqueous Ammonia 19%SDS
Charles,
So, maybe you can run this by Garrett at San Joaquin County. I find it hard to believe because if we
have a spill, we dilute with water In the containment area. Our other options are to save it in a container
4
