Stavarek <br /> Engineering Geologist <br /> California Regional Water Quality Control Board, Central Valley Region <br /> 3443 Routier Road, Suite A <br /> Sacramento, California 95827-3003 <br /> Dear Mr. Stavarek, <br /> After reading your letter to Ms. Nancy Bishop, dated July 7, 1998, I must clarify my <br /> role regarding the use of purge water from the Western Farm Service site in <br /> Vernalis, San Joaquin County. <br /> I was contacted by Fred Strauss, Western Farm Service, concerning the proposed use <br /> of the purge water. He stated that the California Regional Water Quality Control <br /> Board asked that he inform the County Agricultural Commissioner of Western <br /> Farm Service's plans to use purge water containing nitrates, ammonia, <br /> trichloroethene, and ethylene dibromide as make-up water in a fertilizer solution. <br /> The fertilizer solution would then be used on agricultural land in San Joaquin <br /> County. I met with Mr. Strauss on May 26, 1998 and discussed this matter with him. <br /> The meeting with Mr. Strauss was informational only. At no time did I either grant <br /> permission, approve, or otherwise sanction Western Farm Service's plans to use the <br /> purge water as make-up water for a fertilizer solution to be used on agricultural <br /> land. I have no authority to either approve or deny this use.
