Page 3
Cabral Property
February 28, 2006
the on-site buildings where previous sampling/testing revealed elevated concentrations of pesticides
and/or metals. The approximate locations of the proposed sampling locations are shown on Plate 2.
At each location, soil samples will be collected from the surface and at a depth of about one foot;
the deeper soil samples will be held pending the results of the surface soil samples. Based on the
surface soil test results, it may be warranted to test some or all of the one-foot deep samples. We
have anticipated that approximately 25 percent of the deeper samples will be analyzed.
Additionally, we will perform shallow excavations at several of the previous (October 2005)
sampling locations near and within buildings where surface soils contained elevated concentrations
of contaminants; soils samples will be collected from a depth of about one foot from these locations
to evaluate the vertical extent of contamination.
Soil samples collected from the vicinities of the buildings will be submitted to a State-certified
analytical laboratory for testing for organochlorine pesticides by the EPA Method 8081A, and lead
and arsenic by EPA Method 6010B. Following laboratory testing of the additional soil samples
from the vicinity of the buildings, we will select up to two soil samples for analysis for soluble
arsenic and lead by the Waste Extraction Test(WET)method.
Additional Borings in Former Tank Area
To further evaluate the lateral and vertical extent of petroleum hydrocarbon contamination in the
vicinity of the former underground gasoline storage tank, we will advance five additional direct
push (Geoprobe) borings in this area. One of the borings will be advanced to a depth of about 40
feet near the previous boring that encountered hydrocarbon contamination; at-depth soil samples
from this boring will be analyzed to evaluate the vertical extent of contamination. If groundwater
is encountered in this boring, a sample of the groundwater will be collected for analysis. The
remaining four borings will be advanced at locations surrounding the former tank area to further
evaluate the lateral extent of petroleum hydrocarbon contamination in soils; these borings will be
advanced to a maximum depth of 30 feet. Up to 18 soil samples from the borings will be selected
for analysis for total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH) as gasoline as well as benzene, toluene,
ethylbenzene, and xylenes (BTEX). Upon completion of the drilling and sampling, the borings
will be backfilled with neat-cement grout.
Report Preparation
Following the field activities and the laboratory testing, we will prepare a summary report which
will include descriptions of our procedures and observations, a scaled site plan drawing, the
chemical data, discussion regarding the conditions encountered and the signature and stamp of the
Professional Geologist in charge of the project. Recommendations for additional site
characterization, and/or preliminary discussion regarding remedial approaches will be presented.
3
