2-070 -A Site Summary- Potato Slough 2-070 -A <br /> Thomas Guide Location Latitude N Longitude W <br /> County: San Joaquin SF Bay and Delt 3805.3 121 34.2 <br /> USGSQaad: Holt NOAAChart: 18661 SACRAMENTO/SAN JOAQUIN RIVER <br /> Last Page Update: 7/1/1996 <br /> SITE DESCRIPTION: <br /> This site begins at its mouth on Little Potato Slough two miles south of Terminous to its junction with the San <br /> Joaquin River six miles westerly. It is bordered by Bouldin Island on the north and Venice Island to the south. <br /> The Slough is Delta Master Recreational Plan designated a Natural Resource Area with Significant Habitat <br /> Value. The slough has many marshy berm and channel islands in natural condition; some are larger than an <br /> acre. Levee banks are ripped with pockets of emergent marshy/riparian growth. <br /> SEASONAL and SPECIAL RESOURCE CONCERN <br /> The marshy habitat here is of"A" priority all year. Special Status Species occur here: winter-run chinook (F/SE) <br /> are a considerable concern from Oct 15- May 31; several rare plants. <br /> RESOURCES OF PRIMARY CONCERN <br /> There are many marshy margins and islands with freshwater marsh riparian growths which support rich biota <br /> and sensitive species. The water habitat supports a diversified aquatic community including T/E species and <br /> migrant fish. <br /> Site is rich in bird life typical of marshy and riparian species including: waterfowl and marsh birds. <br /> Other vertebrates are typical riverine mammal and reptile species. <br /> Juvenile winter-run chinook can be of great concern here. Juvenile and adult striped bass are typical as are <br /> warm water species. Sacramento splittail and Delta smelt occur here at unpredictable levels. <br /> The rare plants which occur here include Delta tule pea, California hibiscus, Suisun marsh aster, and Mason's <br /> lilaeopsis. <br /> Luxuriant freshwater marsh and willow shrub-scrub dominate inlands. <br /> CULTURAL.
