Alkaline batteries observed sitting on table in the chemistry room in the science building. A universal waste handler shall contain any battery that shows evidence of leakage, spillage, or damage that could cause leakage under reasonably foreseeable conditions in a container. The container shall be closed, structurally sound, compatible with the battery and its contents, and shall lack evidence of leakage, spillage, or damage that could cause leakage under reasonably foreseeable conditions. Immediately store all universal waste lamps in structurally sound, closed containers and provide statement/documentation to EHD. This is a Class II violation. 704 CCR 66273.33(b) UW handler failed to properly manage universal waste lamps. Universal waste lamps observed in 55 gallon container with no lid or secure containment. A universal waste handler shall contain any lamp in a container or package that is structurally sound, adequate to prevent breakage, and compatible with the contents of the lamp. Such a container or package shall remain closed and shall lack evidence of leakage, spillage or damage that could cause leakage under reasonably foreseeable conditions. Immediately store all universal waste lamps in structurally sound, closed containers and provide statement/documentation to EHD. This is a repeat violation, Class II. 712 CCR 66273.34 UW handler(UWH)failed to label universal waste to identify type of universal waste. The following were observed in E 103 the universal waste storage room there was: -One 55 gallon container with universal waste lamps observed with no universal waste label. -One 30 gallon container with universal waste lamps observed with no universal waste label. -7 boxes with universal waste lamps observed with no universal waste labels. Universal waste shall be marked with the words"Universal Waste"and the type of waste(batteries, mercury containing equipment, lamps, electronic devices, CRTs, CRT glass). Immediately label these wastes and ensure that all universal wastes are labeled with the required information. Provide statement/documentation to EHD that labels have been put on the box.
