The Powell Machine Room is in the southwest comer of the warehouse and
is in an enclosed room with transparent walls. The room has grates over the entire bottom creating a
sump. There is a.sink outside the Powell Machine Room adjacent
to the open-top sump. A pipe from the sink goes into the sump, so that all liquids from the sink go into the
sump. There is a sign above the sinks that says, "Sink use for bleach and caustic onlyl"
Reynon stated that the sink was used to rinse out glassware and other lab equipment used to test the
properties of the bleach solution.
Field Observations: A sign posted in the area said: "Process Make Up Water(containing 1-12% bleach)
Pumped Back for Reprocessing".
Field testing and other pertinent info: a pH strip used to measure the water showed a pH of approAmately
10.
Analysis for sample location: ❑ total metals ❑ soluble metals ❑ TCLP ❑ mercury ❑ Chrom 6 ❑
PCBs ❑ pH ❑ flash pt 181 fish bloassay ❑ asbestos ❑ motor oil range ❑ diesel range
❑ total petroleum hydrocarbons ❑ VOCs ❑ Semivol ❑ < 100 micron size ❑ other(specify):
Photos: See Attachment 4, Photo #'s: 48-52
Page 11 of 12
