IDLH Immediately Dangerous to Life and Safety <br /> [car] substance identified as a suspected,'or confirmed carcinogen <br /> [skin] substance may be absorbed into the bloodstream through the skin, <br /> mucous membrane or eyes <br /> Contact with hydrocarbon-based fuels may result in dermal irritation due to <br /> desiccation. Respiration of air laden with hydrocarbon vapor may result in <br /> oxygen deficiency, central nervous system depression or irritation of the mucous <br /> membranes. Mixtures of air and hydrocarbon fuels can present an explosion <br /> hazard. Benzene, a suspected human carcinogen, tetraethyl lead and ethylene <br /> dibromide (both neurotoxins) may be present in gasoline and waste oils <br /> 4.2 Physical Hazards <br /> Physical hazards present at the R & L site include'the following: <br /> • thermal stress <br /> • fire and explosion <br /> • electrical hazards <br /> • noise <br /> 4.3 General Safety Hazards <br /> Other possible safety hazards include the potential',for slipping, falling, head trauma, and <br /> lifting heavy objects. All personnel working on the;project will wear appropriate personal <br /> protective equipment, including eye protection, hard hats, gloves and steel-toed boots <br /> as required by the SSO. First aid will be available on-site to take care of any minor <br /> i <br /> injuries. Appropriate emergency services shall be contacted to deal with emergency <br /> situations more serious than cuts or scrapes. <br /> 5.0 PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT <br /> Based on evaluation of potential hazards, hazard levels have been established as Level <br /> D, but the project manager should be prepared to upgrade protection to Level C if <br /> warranted by field conditions. <br /> Environeering, Inc.
