Kennedy/Jenks Consultants
Table 8 provides a summary of the Facility's water usage based on meter readings recorded
from Production Wells No. 1 and No. 4. Production Well No. 3 does not have a meter for
measuring usage. Production Well No. 4 supplies the majority of the Facility's water needs and
was installed in September 2001, brought into service in November 2002, and became fully
active in January 2003. The meter readings from Well No. 1 are believed to be inaccurate.
Because Well No. 4 provides the majority of the Facility water, the water usage reported for
2003 is considered to be most representative of Facility water usage. Tables 9 and 10 present
historical analytical data for groundwater samples collected from the production wells.
4.2.1.1 Production Well Construction Details
Well construction details are not available for Production Well Nos. 1, 2, and 3. Production Well
No. 4 was drilled in 2001 to a depth of 700 feet below ground surface (bgs)but was completed
to 500 feet bgs due to encountering a thick blue clay layer which is most likely the Corcoran
Clay layer. A 16-inch diameter casing was installed with a screened interval from 320 feet bgs to
440 feet bgs. The depth to static water was recorded as 70 feet bgs.
4.2.1.2 Groundwater Sampling and Analysis
Tables 9 and 10 present historical analytical data for groundwater samples collected from the
production wells. The constituents presented are: hardness as CaCO3, pH, EC, TDS, total
alkalinity as CaCO3, bicarbonate (HCO3)„calcium, sodium, magnesium, manganese, chloride,
sulfate, and nitrate as N.
Perforated casing depth information is not available for three of the production wells or any of
the irrigation wells. Perforation depths will need to be researched for these production and
irrigation wells in order to identify the water bearing zone for which the water quality data
represents. If the screen lengths are determined to be less than 20 feet, then water quality data
collected from the production and irrigation wells may be compared to water quality data
collected from the monitoring wells or offsite wells.
Groundwater samples from the production and irrigation wells will be analyzed for Nitrate as N,
TKN, TDS, pH, trihalomethanes, and standard minerals including calcium, magnesium, sodium,
chloride, nitrate, sulfate, total alkalinity including the alkalinity series, and hardness, as specified
in the Groundwater Monitoring section of the Revised MRP No. 87-184.
4.2.2 Monitoring Wells
Woodbridge installed seven (7) groundwater monitoring wells in December 2001 to monitor
groundwater levels and water quality beneath the Facility. The locations of the wells are
depicted in Figure 2. Monitoring well construction logs are provided in Appendix A. The
construction details for the seven monitoring wells can be found in Table 11 and are briefly
summarized below.
4.2.2.1 Well Construction Details
Monitoring well MW-1 was constructed of 2-inch diameter Schedule 40 PVC with 0.020-inch
slotted screen sections from 16 to 36 feet bgs. The filter pack consists of#3 sand, and a
Groundwater Protection Work Plan, Woodbridge Winery Page 42
Robert Mondavi, Acampo, California
9'ge:.y'xnenyoh'fi310Ju12d.mrooUen:bcWarS'wv:ru43.Kcny+rt6slniea;da
