FIRE AND EMERGENCY EVENT PROCEDURES <br /> 1. INTRODUCTORY REMARKS <br /> Fire in a,hospital is a particularly terrifying prospect. Panic and undue alarm can <br /> cause as much, if not more, damage than fire; therefore, if a fire should be <br /> discovered in the hospital,keep calm and remove all people from the immediate <br /> area. Summons help by pulling the nearest fire alarm. Go to the nearest phone and <br /> call DR..RED on the page system 3 times. Contain the fire by closing the <br /> immediate doors. The fire department is notified when the fire alarm bells are <br /> activated but a back-up call to the fire department by Skilled Nursing Station, and <br /> steps outlined below must be followed whenever a fire is discovered in the <br /> hospital. By carefully studying the instructions on this and the following pages,, <br /> there should be no reason for any employee to face an emergency without full <br /> knowledge of what is expected. This procedure has been written so each employee <br /> will know exactly what to do should a fire develop within the hospital. <br /> 2. IN CASE OF FIRE: ALL SHIFTS ALL DEPARTMENTS R.A.C.E. <br /> a. Rescue/Remove all persons from immediate danger. <br /> b. Alert/Alarm by pulling nearest fire alarm(red boxes in halls). Report to <br /> nearest telephone and announce"Dr.Red to <br /> "(location of fire) <br /> on paging system,repeat 3 times. <br /> -0---contain the fire. Close doors to contain fire. Shut off any oxygen. <br /> d. Extinguish/Evacuate: Assist in directing help to fire area and help <br /> extinguish. Evacuate when necessary,following evacuation plan. <br /> NEVER SHOUT FIRE ! ! <br /> Following notification of fire, , <br /> 1. Implement MA.C.E. <br /> 2. Gather all possible information as to the location and extent of the <br /> fire;what is burning,and whether an explosion occurred,etc,if <br /> known to provide to the fire department upon arrival. <br /> 3. Keep line open to fire area. <br /> 4. Direct someone to meet the fire department upon its arrival through <br /> the front doors. <br /> 5. Make no unnecessary calls during the emergency. <br /> 6. In the event the telephones are out of service,use any available <br /> cell phone,pay phone or the nearest phone in the neighborhood. <br />
