h
PROCEDURES AT A GLANCE
1• Remove client, Clients I should be moved from the immediate danger area.
2. Turn in the alarm. From the nearest telephone, notify the emergency system by
dialing 9-1-1. In the event that the phone is out of order, send a messenger to
contact the fire department or use an employee cellular phone if available.
3. Avoid panic. . .Keep calm! Never shout FIRE!!! Clients look to you for your
assurance and protection and to do so would only alarm them.
4. Prevent the spread of fire. Close doors and windows. Fire needs oxygen to burn.
5. Try to extinguish the fire. Learn the location of the fire and know how to use the
fire extinguisher.
6. Learn emergency procedure. Know exactly what your duties are. Memorize
location of fire exits, fire extinguishers and nearest alarm box.
8. FIRE DRILLS
All fire drills are to be treated as real fires. All employees are required to
participate. Evacuation and oxygen turn off are not enacted in drills.
7. IMPORTANT POINTS
a. Report all fires to the fire department regardless of size. This is important
for safety's sake but also because of a possible insurance factor. Call the
Fire Department if you smell smoke and cannot locate the sourcel
b. Response to a reported fire will be within minutes by our fire department,
so attention to resident welfare is your most important responsibility after
reporting the fire.
C. Learn what and where the fire doors are.
d. The fire alarm can be turned off by the firemen or the Administrator.
