in the procedure is placed on the tray or countertop. After the procedure is finished all
items which are not reusable (tattoo machines, tubes) are thrown away. The areas that
were used during the procedure or touched by open bare skin are then sprayed with a cide
and allowed to dry for 3-5 minutes before being wiped down.
E. Prevention of Cross Contamination: Describe the techniques used to prevent the
contamination of instruments; tattoo machines, trays, tables, chairs, clip cords, power
supplies, squeeze bottles, pigments, lamps, stools, soaps and the procedure site or other
items during a body art procedure. Include barriers provided to prevent cross
contamination. Describe how the procedure site is prepared for the body art procedure.
Before touching any item in the workstation or cleaning room to be used during the
procedure, we wash our hands and then apply hand sanitizer. All items listed above with
the exception of inks and pigments are covered with a new protective barrier before each
tattoo to prevent cross contamination. Each barrier is removed and the procedure site is
sprayed with and allowed to soak for 3-5 minutes before being wiped down. Each
procedure area has its own garbage can and all waste created in that area goes in its own
garbage can. Inks and pigments are kept in separate closed containers in each procedure
area and not exposed to open environments. When setting up for a tattoo a certain amount
of in is placed into a single use ink cap, and the bottle is placed back into the container
before the tattoo is started. The barriers used to prevent cross contamination are stretcher
sheets; dental bibs, clip cord covers, power supply bags, and cling wrap. Soap and water
mixing is performed in another area separate from the procedure area. Large containers of
soap are kept in a room separate from the workstation. Small squeeze bottles of soap and
water mixtures that are used during a tattoo are kept at each workstation and wrapped
with a barrier wrap or plastic bag before each tattoo.
F. Sharps Containers: Describe the procedures for safe handling of sharps and indicate
the locations of the sharps containers. Indicate disposal frequency for sharps waste.
After each tattoo, all sharps are immediately placed into the sharps container with the tip
of the needle facing away from both the artist and client. Each procedure area has a wall
mounted sharps container in it. The disposal frequency will vary.
Once the sharps containers are full they are disposed of within 30 days by a medical
waste hauler.
G. Sharps Disposal: Describe the disposal of sharps used during a body art procedure.
1. Needles and needle bars immediately after a tattoo.
2.
